After Queen Fifi kissed them good-night, Rosie and Cleo scampered up the stairs to Rosieâs bedroom.
Cleo daintily cleaned her face with her paws and tongue. She lifted up the pink satin bedspread and started to climb into Rosieâs enormous bed. âGood night, Rosie.â
âWhat are you doing?â Rosie asked. âJust because itâs time for bed doesnât mean itâs time to go to sleep!â
Rosie pulled out a stack of magazines from her bedside table. Cleo helped herself to a copy of Furry Fashions and flicked through all the latest looks. âOoh! I love this,â she said, showing Rosie a picture of a collar studded with pearls.
âHmm â¦â Rosie said, doing the crossword in Royalty Review. She chewed on her pencil. âA five-letter word for something a princess should never leave home without.â She nudged Cleo. âCan you help me? It begins with a T.â
âTiara!â Cleo said.
âThanks!â Rosie said, writing the letters in the squares.
âLetâs play a game,â Rosie said, tossing her magazine aside when sheâd finished the puzzle. She opened her huge toy chest, which was carved with crowns and paw prints, and looked for something to play. âHow about Pup-cheesi?â she suggested, taking out a board game in a box.
Cleo set out the pieces, and the girls began to play.
âSeven!â Rosie said, rolling the dice and moving her playing piece seven spaces. She handed the dice to Cleo. âYour turn!â
Just then, Rosieâs bedroom door opened, and the two puppy princes came in.
âWhatâs going on in here?â Rollo asked.
âWeâre playing Pup-cheesi,â Rosie said. âYou can play, too, if you promise not to cheat.â
Rocky shook his head. âPup-cheesi is boring,â he said. âLetâs play something exciting.â
âLike what?â Cleo asked.
Rocky and Rollo exchanged mischievous looks. âLike TRUTH OR DARE!â Rollo said, his tail wagging in excitement.
âHow do you play that?â Cleo asked.
Rocky jumped onto Rosieâs bed, knocking over the board game. âWell, when itâs your turn you can pick truth or dare,â he explained. âIf you pick truth, the others get to ask you a question and you have to tell the truth. If you pick dare, you have to do what the others dare you to do.â
âWhat if you donât want to?â Cleo asked, her eyes wide.
âThen we get to decide your penalty!â Rollo said gleefully.
âWhat do you think?â Rosie asked Cleo.
Cleo nodded. âIt sounds fun.â
âWhoâs going first?â Rosie asked.
âI will,â Rollo said. âI pick truth.â
Cleo thought for a moment. âUmm ⦠whatâs your favorite pizza topping?â
âNo, no, no!â Rocky cried. âDonât ask him that! Ask him something interesting.â
âOoh! I know,â Rosie said, wagging her tail in excitement. âWhatâs the naughtiest thing youâve ever done?â
âHmm,â Rollo said, his brow wrinkling. âThatâs hard. Thereâs a lot of things to choose from!â He scratched his head with his paw. âI know!â he said at last. âI put slugs under Priscillaâs pillow once.â
âOh, Rollo!â Cleo gasped. âThatâs terrible!â
âYeah, well, she deserved it,â Rollo grumbled. âShe yelled at me for getting muddy paw prints on the carpet.â
That sounds just like her, thought Rosie, thanking her lucky stars that the fussy bunny was no longer her lady-in-waiting.
